Zuidnatie and Knauf start a new inland shipping concept

With the Oosterweel works on the horizon, road transport will not be the ideal solution in the coming years. Construction company Knauf looked for and found a solution at freight handler Zuidnatie. The inland vessel “Dampezzo” has been transporting both containers and coils between Terminal South and the terminals of ABES and Katoen Natie since July. Additionally eight pieces of Project Cargo (with two motors weight each 173 MT!) were added with direct unloading on mv Hanna. Multimodality at its finest. An important step for smooth intermodal traffic in the port. This new collaboration between Knauf and Zuidnatie saves a lot of trucks on the road. For example, the “Dampezzo” took 42 coils on board in addition to containers on its first transport. Each coil weighs up to 25 tons, equivalent to one truckload. The combination of coils and containers not only increases the efficiency of the transport, it is also a solution to bypass the Oosterweel works. Zuidnatie and Knauf plan to use the barge every week.
